Tell THPRD Board Members to Cut Ties with Lobbyists for Coal, Oil, and Gas

Some of America’s most progressive local government agencies–like Tualatin Parks and Recreation District in Beaverton, Oregon–perversely share lobbying firms with some of its most rapacious fossil fuel companies. Currently, Tualatin Parks District employs a lobbyist who also works for BP America, one of the world’s biggest GHG emitters and most destructive fossil fuel companies.

Join F Minus in calling on Tualatin Hill Parks and Recreation District to cut ties with fossil fuel lobbyists.

Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District shares a lobbyist, Kylie Grunow, with fossil fuel company  British Petroleum (BP). BP has a long record of damaging the environment and causing health problemsin front line communities – like cancer and respiratory problems. In June 2023 Oregon fined BP for inaccurate reporting of renewable fuel volume amount. Multnomah County recently sued BP and other fossil fuel companies for their role in creating a heat dome in the PNW. DeSmog recently reported about how BP has known that their global activities are creating famine.

Why is THPRD sharing a lobbying firm with a company that is making the climate crisis worse and is trying to weaken our climate commitments?

Hello President Moreno and THPRD Board and Staff:

I’m writing to express my concern about Tualatin Hills Parks & Recreation District employing a lobbyist who also works for BP America, one of the world’s biggest GHG emitters and most destructive fossil fuel companies.

I appreciate the vital and progressive role that THPRD plays in promoting conservation and stewardship of the environment. At the same time, F Minus, and other partners on this issue feel that it is imperative for climate-conscious institutions like THPRD to cut ties with lobbyists for fossil fuel companies. These companies bear significant responsibility for the climate crisis and the increasingly severe wildfires and other climate impacts that threaten our communities in Oregon.

I would greatly appreciate the chance to speak with you and any of your colleagues about this issue.

Sincerely,
XXXX
