Washington

Smoke from Washington’s worsening wildfires is especially dangerous for children, yet ten public school districts in the state employ fossil fuel lobbyists. The University of Washington recently pledged to divest from fossil fuels by 2027, yet continues to employ a lobbyist who works for Marathon Petroleum.

The Port of Seattle has been a staging ground for Shell’s Arctic oil and gas operations. Under pressure from environmental activists, Wells Fargo announced in 2020 that it would no longer fund Arctic drilling, yet Wells Fargo’s lobbyists Paul and Kathleen Gano also lobby for Shell and help Shell funnel money to pro-fossil fuel political candidates.
