The Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library Foundation plans to build a library and museum in Medora, North Dakota to honor the man the foundation calls “the original conservationist.”

Nationwide, libraries are one of the most important sources of information and community programs about the climate crisis. Yet in 2022, 71 libraries and library associations around the country employed lobbyists who also worked for the fossil fuel industry. In North Dakota, lobbyists for the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library Foundation also lobbied on behalf of Energy Transfer Partners and Targa Badlands.

The Foundation’s association with fossil fuel lobbyists is also notable because of the direct threat posed to the air quality in Theodore Roosevelt National Park by the proposed 49,500 barrels-per-day Davis oil refinery.
