According to the EPA, climate-related health care costs in Mississippi will include greater instances of asthma and other respiratory disesases that are made worse by high temperatures and greeter concentrations of ground-level ozone. In 2022, lobbyists for fossil fuel lobbyists represented 38 different health care interests such as hospitals, insurance companies, and associations of health care professionals whose patients and customers will bear these costs.

The nonprofit Save the Children has successfully lobbied for millions of dollars in state funding to create developmental programs for children in Mississippi. Much of this organization’s work in other states and other countries focuses on risks to children from the climate crisis, such as drought, food insecurity, and water contamination. In 2022, Save the Children employed the same Mississippi lobbyists as fossil fuel companies Atmos Energy, Denbury, and Chevron.
